When I arrived at RPI, there appeared to be a name tag at the door of the office assigned to me. Just as with the apartment the day before, this in itself made me feel very welcome. Where I work in Holland, it may take the faculty ages before somebody has tagged the door.
The office was quite empty, but after a few hours, Olof brought in some stuff:
Upon my request, I was allowed to open the package myself and install the machine. A few minutes later, it was up and running. For the time being, this is what my office then looked like:
